Choosing your route

Northern or Southern Circuit?

Tanzania's parks fall into two broad routes. We plan either — the right one depends on what you want from the days in between the game drives.

Most travelers

Northern Circuit

Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Tarangire and Lake Manyara, linked by short drives from Arusha. The Great Migration, the highest density of big game, and lodges at every level — you will share the best sightings with other vehicles.

Best for — first safaris, families, migration and Kilimanjaro trips

Typical length — 4–10 days

The quieter half

Southern Circuit

Nyerere and Ruaha — vast, remote and reached by light aircraft. Far fewer vehicles, boat and walking safaris on the Rufiji, and strong predator sightings. Fewer camps, more flying, and it pairs naturally with Zanzibar.

Best for — return visitors, walking and boat safaris, solitude
